James Littlejohn Radical UK Cup Champion
James started his racing life out at the age 16. After a number of wins in the class B category of the BRDC Formula Ford Championship, James moved up to the top class to win the winter series before progressing onto the full series in 2005.A hard fought season saw James have a year long battle with current Porsche Factory driver Nick Tandy, still only 17 years old James finished the year runner up only finishing off the podium on two occasions.
In 2006 James progressed onto a new challenge in the BARC Formula Renault Championship, still chasing the dream of Formula 1. Another successful year brought multiple wins, pole positions and fastest laps. A lot was learnt in this first year racing cars with slicks and wings and by the end of the season James had a another top three championship position to his name.
2007 started with a visit to Asia and a round of the national Formula 3 series at Zhuhai circuit in China. James qualified his class B F3 car near to the front and ahead of current Mclaren F1 test driver Oliver Turvey, then proceeded to score two class wins on his Formula 3 debut. 2007 also brought the opportunity for James to start a career in sportscars, when friend Martin Braybrooks Brookspeed squad acquired a Dodge Viper GT3 car for the British GT Championship. James appeared in the British GT series in 2007 at Oulton Park and Thruxton but budget restrictions meant that the remainder of 2007 was finished by paying drivers.
A big part of James career and success has been driving historic race cars and in 2008 James competed for the first time in the Spa 6hr race in a Ford Mustang. Since this appearance and up until the present day James has gone onto race historic cars for a number of owners/ drivers.
Historic racing continued as a professional driver through 2008, 2009, 2010 but in 2011 James was back in a full time race seat, this time in the Radical UK Cup, European Masters and Radical UAE cup driving an SR3. This was a great start to a successful partnership with friend and co driver Tony Wells. 2011 saw again many race wins, pole positions, fastest laps and podiums as well as the Radical UAE Teams Championship.
For 2012 James and Tony moved up to the SR8 category, this time competing for overall race victories. Some bad luck in Europe was made up for by James and Tony winning the 2012 Radical UK cup in the SR8 class. Once again the team mates shared many race wins, poles, lap records and podiums. The historic aspect of James career also went well that season after claiming pole position out of 120 cars for the prestigious Spa 6hrs. Having broad historic race and historic DFV Formula 1 experience meant James had a call up for an appearance in Ron Howards 2013 film Rush, as a precision driver involved in the driving scenes in a six wheel Tyrrell doubling for Patrick depailler.
James and Tony stayed with the Radical SR8 for the 2013 Radical European Masters series, where they ended up top Pro Am pairing and third overall by the end of the season. James also had the opportunity to drive a Lotus Elise in the Lotus Cup UK series for the majority of the season. This proved to be a busy year competing in 11 different race series among testing for the Fortec Mercedes GT3 squad in preparation for the 2014 season.
